Angel Jones is a seasoned operations executive, strategic consultant, and community advocate with more than a decade of experience in nonprofit leadership, organizational development, education, and community transformation. A proud native of rural North Carolina, she currently serves as Chief Operations Officer for the Green Rural Redevelopment Organization (GRRO), where she leads enterprise operations, strategic growth, partnership development, and multi-million-dollar program implementation across integrated health, food, and education initiatives.
Angel has led national anti-poverty and STEM initiatives through AmeriCorps and FIRST Robotics, impacting schools and communities across the U.S., Puerto Rico, and Canada. Her background spans financial services, operational scaling, school start-ups, policy advising, and systems design, with a strong focus on creating sustainable, equity-centered solutions in both rural and urban communities.
She holds bachelor’s and master’s degrees in business administration from Columbia Southern University, executive certifications from Duke University, and previously held Series 6, 63, and 26 financial licenses. A mother of six and lifelong learner, Angel is passionate about youth empowerment, rural innovation, and building scalable systems that create lasting community change.

Melanie Bush is Interim Deputy Secretary of Medicaid for the North Carolina Division of Health Benefits (DHB), Department of Health and Human Services – also known as NC Medicaid. In this role, she provides leadership, strategic direction, operational oversight, and managed care supervision for the North Carolina Medicaid program, which serves more than 3 million North Carolinians who cannot afford health care.
As Assistant Secretary and Chief Operating Officer, Melanie and her teams led the implementation of managed care transformation, the unwinding of continuous coverage for the COVID-19 public health emergency, and an expansion of Medicaid that extended access to care to more than 700,000 additional North Carolinians.
Melanie also serves as a Governor’s appointee to the Board of Trustees for the North Carolina State Health Plan, which provides health care coverage for state and county employees. She is committed to ensuring high-quality health care at the lowest cost possible for the State of North Carolina.
Prior to joining NC Medicaid, Melanie was the Medicaid Fiscal Analyst for the Fiscal Research Division of the North Carolina General Assembly (NCGA), where she led the Health and Human Services budget team. Her previous roles also include Senior Policy Analyst for Medicaid at the Texas Health and Human Services Commission (HHSC) and Policy Analyst for the Center for Community Change in Washington, DC.
Melanie holds a Bachelor of Science in Foreign Service from Georgetown University and a Master of Public Affairs from the University of Texas at Austin.

The American Heart Association's Health Care by Food™ initiative is coordinating scientific research, public policy advocacy and stakeholder education to advance food is medicine interventions that incorporate healthy food into health care to treat, manage and prevent diet-related diseases. In 2024, Health Care by Food awarded research grants to fund 23 small-scale clinical trials focused on rapid cycle innovation, adaptive designs and attention to lived experiences. Results of these studies will enable testing of the scalability and sustainability of large comparative effectiveness trials.

Through Project DASH, Food is Medicine providers leverage DoorDash's white-label fulfillment solution to deliver food from local distribution sites to participants' homes - overcoming transportation and mobility barriers that can limit participation and reduce adherence. Project DASH partners with Food is Medicine programs of all shapes and sizes, and covers more than 95% of the US population.
Food Is Medicine Coalition
The Food is Medicine Coalition (FIMC) is the national coalition of nonprofit organizations that provide medically tailored meals (MTMs) and groceries (MTGs), medical nutrition therapy and nutrition counseling and education to people in communities across the country living with severe, complex and chronic conditions. We advance access to these life-saving interventions through policy change, research and evaluation, and best practices. FIMC offers a community of learning for existing practitioners, equips new organizations to launch medically tailored meal programs, and accredits agencies against our fieldwide standard for MTM.

Free Ticket Scholarships
Numerous free tickets have already been allocated to known community-based organizations working in the field and to the communities they serve. This additional scholarship pool of 25 free tickets is intended to help conference organizers identify additional important voices that should be at the table—particularly grassroots leaders, emerging organizations, and individuals with lived experience whose perspectives are essential to meaningful dialogue and impact.
Travel Stipends
Limited stipends are available to help offset travel costs for community-based organizations and people with lived experience. We strongly encourage applications from individuals who are historically underrepresented in conference spaces.
